Medications and Treatments for Flea and Tick Control
Since there are a lot of flea and tick treatments out there, it would be difficult to decide which one would be the best for your pet. You might be tempted to look at the company that manufactured the product, but what is really important is the effectiveness of the product in solving the problem. Over the years treatments have been developed and the product that we are looking for now is something that we can use for whatever flea and tick problem our pet is facing and not simply to disrupt the life cycle of the flea or the tick.
A lot of companies today are coming up with different treatments for the flea and tick problem of our pets. These treatments are discussed below and it includes topical treatments, sprays and mists, flea collars, shampoos, dipping products, flea combs, and oral tablets.
You apply topical treatments to the skin of your pet. This medication is applied behind the head between the shoulders to prevent your pet from licking it. This treatment is easy to apply. They are effective in killing adult fleas within 24 hours. They also kill flea eggs and larvae.
Flea and tick sprays and mists are administered from a spray bottle. They can be used on cats, dogs, puppies, and kittens to control fleas, ticks, and flea larvae. When the adult fleas and ticks come in contact with the products, they are instantly killed. It also kills flea eggs on the animal so that the life cycle of the flea is broken. Re-infestation is prevented because of residual effects.
Flea and tick collars can also help control fleas and ticks in cats and dogs. There are different sizes depending on the size of your pet’s neck. They are made of plastic and they release insecticide to kill fleas or ticks. Somehow only the head area is where you find its effectiveness.
Flea and tick dips are effective in killing fleas and ticks immediately at that single moment. If your outdoor dog is infested, then this is the best treatment to use. You dip your pet in a solution up to their necks or sponge it all over their bodies and then let it dry on them.
Another quick remedy are shampoos for relieving your pet of ticks and fleas. They don’t have any residual prevention against these pests, though. But they can get your pet really clean and help with skin conditions.
You can also remove fleas from your pets without using pesticide by using a flea comb. It caches fleas in the narrow gaps between the teeth or forcing them to jump off. You have to run the comb through your pet’s coat. Dip the comb in the water after each run and leave the fur caught in the water. It is the soapy water that will kill the fleas.
