What to do for a Patient Suffering from Spine Pain
Pain management experts usually have long lists of patients who wish to have their spinal pain sorted out once and for all. This is normal. Many people suffer from back pain at any given time. There is no other cause of most of the disability cases in the entire world. When you help your patients to find ways to make the pain go away, they shall appreciate this more. This pain has led them to live substandard lives in terms of quality.
People react and manage pain in different ways. You thus need to know what kind of pain management tools are at your disposal. There are three major techniques you can employ.
The conservative technique allows you to see the patient for an hour a week. This hour serves up an opportunity to do so much for the patient. Make the patient know that pain management does not stop once the hour is over, but is a continuous process. They should go on with the conservative techniques. They have at their disposal activities like aerobic exercise, swimming, Pilates, yoga, and cycling. These are cardiovascular exercise that usually produce great physical and mental effect in the patients. They do not strain the back too much. Yoga and Pilates also build muscles, improve flexibility and improve your balance. This makes for a strong spine. These exercises should only be tried but those how have mild spine pain. If your pain is severe, you should avoid such exercises.
Mind techniques are based on the idea that pain may just be mental games. Therefore, some mind techniques can be applied to solve this. You can deliberately concentrate on a nonpainful part of the body. You can also temporarily sever the link between the mind and the body. You can imagine yourself receiving a numbing anesthesia injection. You can also do this when you think of painkillers the same way. The same thing applies when you think of a pleasant scenery or memory.
There are other minimally invasive techniques you can consider. You can use acupuncture this way. It increases circulation through the use of small needles. Facet injections can lead to a longer period of pain relief, when injections to the facet joint stops pain being communicated in the body. As epidural steroid injections are injected into the epidural, inflammations reduce. Cryotherapy involves the sending of a cold mist through the body, where it shall be left feeling refreshed and rejuvenated.
You will notice it is hard to manage to find a good method of pain management for your patients. Different patients have different kinds of pain. You need to keep working till you find the right one.
